KOTA KINABALU: In response to recent complaints regarding elevated noise levels at the MAFI-Bayu Night Market, Gee Tien Siong   Luyang Community Development Leader (PPM) promptly took action and consulted with Paul, the spokesperson for market management.

According to him, Paul explained that two special events held on recent Saturdays, aimed at attracting crowds to this new venue, may have contributed to the higher-than-usual noise levels; however, these events are not a regular occurrence.

He was informed that the management is actively addressing the issue by requesting that buskers perform softer music and by closely monitoring and adjusting sound levels to ensure compliance with DBKK standards.

“For context, the night market site, which is owned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI), is located in front of Tropical Rainforest Ujana Park, adjacent to the MAFI office.”

“Since its opening on 22 January 2025, the market has been operating at full capacity for the past three weeks, accommodating up to 30 vendors, most of whom are affiliated with MAFI,” he stated adding that the market offers the community a variety of freshly prepared meals, while MAFI supports the site with a rubbish collection centre and toilet facilities to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.

The market operates daily from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with entertainment activities concluding by 10:30 PM, in accordance with DBKK regulations.

“I appreciate the proactive efforts of the MAFI-Bayu Night Market management in addressing these concerns and encourage residents to continue providing constructive feedback, as open communication is essential for fostering a harmonious community,” he said adding that  for further inquiries or concerns, residents were welcome to contact his office or the market management directly.-pr/BNN
