KOTA KINABALU: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) fully supports the recent statement by Chief Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Chairman, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, expressing readiness for GRS to contest the upcoming state election on its own if Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) decide to collaborate.
As a steadfast component party within GRS, LDP shares the Chief Minister’s unwavering commitment to prioritising Sabah’s rights, identity, and local governance. The idea of Sabah being led by local parties is not merely a political strategy—it is a necessity rooted in the aspirations, culture, and realities unique to the people of this state.
LDP President, Datuk Chin Su Phin, reiterated that any deviation from this principle would be a disservice to Sabahans who have consistently voiced their desire for homegrown leadership, one that understands and fights for their everyday needs without compromise.
“LDP believes in a Sabah that stands tall—not in defiance of the federal government, but in defence of its rightful autonomy and development agenda. We will always support a path that ensures political stability and empowers our people economically and socially,” said Datuk Chin.
LDP also welcomes the planned leadership meeting by GRS to chart a united direction for the upcoming state polls. As partners within the coalition, we stand ready to engage in constructive dialogue with fellow local parties who share our commitment to progress, unity, and the long-term development of Sabah.
What remains undeniable is this—LDP will continue to walk shoulder to shoulder with GRS in building a Sabah that is resilient, respected, and responsive to its people.-pr/BNN
