KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has called off the state-level Malaysia Day celebrations at Padang Merdeka tomorrow night in view of the widespread disaster crisis brought about by continuous rain affecting at least seven districts in Sabah.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor informed the Head of State Tun Musa Aman about the decision, today.

“The State government’s immediate priority is to manage the crisis, coordinate recovery efforts and ensure timely rescue operations for affected communities.

“In this time of difficulty, the well-being, welfare and security of the people are of utmost importance. We must direct all focus and resources to those affected,” he said.

The Chief Minister has instructed the State Disaster Management Committee to remain on full alert and be prepared for prompt action as conditions on the ground continue to unfold amid the prevailing bad weather.

The State Disaster Management Committee, chaired by State Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Sr Safar Untong, is currently holding round-the-clock meetings to monitor developments and coordinate immediate responses in the affected districts.

Hajiji urged the public to remain vigilant, adhere to safety advisories, and cooperate fully with rescue teams as efforts are being intensified across the state.-pr/BNN
