KOTA KINABALU: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) is confident the current State government led by the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will be able to rebuild Sabah and restore its economy.
STAR Vice President Edward Linggu said in a statement here today that GRS government already has a strategic plan called ‘Sabah Maju Jaya’ which would determine the course of Sabah for years to come.
“However, for these plans to take off, the State government must be given the room and opportunity to carry out its plans.
“Therefore, STAR would like to voice our support towards Sabah Umno chief Dato’ Sri Bung Moktar Radin who, yesterday, said politics should take a back seat in an effort to develop Sabah,” he said.
Linggu said the new GRS government has the people’s mandate, unlike the previous state government.
Therefore, he said the oppositions must accept their defeat gracefully and if they are sincere, work together with the government to carry out all the government’s plans under the Sabah Maju Jaya blueprint.
“The next five years would be filled with challenges and hardships. We cannot expect Sabah to record a GDP growth of 8.2 per cent immediately after seeing our growth plummeted to 1.5% and 0.5% in 2018 and 2019.
“But STAR is hopeful that under the GRS government, Sabah will once again thrive and prosper. No challenge can match the fighting spirits of our people,” he said.
He called on all Sabahans, and STAR members in particular, to unite and concentrate their energies and talents to help ensure the government’s good work to develop Sabah will be fruitful.
“Put politics aside. The people have spoken. I am sure they do not want to talk about politics anymore. Even members and leaders from opposition parties like Parti Warisan Sabah and UPKO have started joining STAR.
“They are willing to set politics aside as they just want to rebuild Sabah and the economy after the poor result of the previous government. So, now let us all get to work,” he said.-pr/BNN
