KOTA KINABALU: The lack of awareness and the wait and see attitude of the public at large needs to be addressed in order to ensure the success of the vaccination program in Sabah.

Community Development Leader for N. 20 Api-Api, Oliver Majaham, appealed to the public to make an effort to register as recipients for the COVID-19 vaccine to ensure the government objective of vaccinating 80% of the population can be achieved within the targeted timeline.

“Each individual plays an important role in determinating the ultimate success of the vaccination program. The sooner we register, the faster the government can disburse the vaccines in order to achieve herd immunity against the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Oliver during the Info On Wheels program organized for the members of the Sabah Chinese Women Association at Tzu Yu kindergarten.

He added that both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac vaccines are equally effective and safe as the government have conducted its own testing before initiating the national vaccination program and thus the people are urged not to be particular on which type of vaccines they should receive.

With rollout of the Phase 2 of the COVID-19 vaccine starting on April 19 which will prioritise the elderly, those with morbidity problems and people with disabilities, efforts have been taken to create awareness on the government vaccination initiatives in Kota Kinabalu through the Info On Wheels program organized by Jabatan Penerangan Sabah in collaboration with Jabatan Kesihatan Kota Kinabalu and assisted by Unit Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat N20 Api-Api.

Dr. Lee Soon Guan, the medical officer for Kota Kinabalu was present to give a talk about the Covid vaccines and addressed any misconceptions about the vaccination program.

The Info On Wheels program for N.20 Api-Api also received the support from Kim Teck Cheong (KTC) Consolidated Executive Director Dexter Lau who donated 1,000 Creamos buns as part of its CSR program to encourage the public to register for the COVID-19 vaccines.

Also present during the info On Wheels program were Wong Ing Huang, president of the Sabah Chinese Women Association, Felix Malangkig, DBKK Director of Human Resource Department, Kota Kinabalu Information Officer Hasmawati Korrda and Api-Api Chinese Community Leaders.-pr/BNN
