KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has agreed in principle to the setting up of a trade and tourism office in Singapore to promote economic potential in these two areas.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Hj Noor said this in during a virtual call with Singapore’s High Commissioner to Malaysia His Excellency Vanu Gopala Menon at his office here this morning.
In the video call held for the first time, Hajiji said Sabah and Singapore has a long history of trade relations and this (setting up of the office) will augur well for enhanced Sabah-Singapore relations.
“I would also like to invite Singaporean investors to look at opportunities under our Halatuju Sabah Maju Jaya development plan focusing on high impact investments in
particularly in the agriculture and tourism sectors,” he said.
Both spoke on various issues, among them the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic and measures taken to keep numbers down.
Singapore is among Sabah’s top 10 trading partners with a trade value of RM133 million as at January of this year. Among the 10 product categories exported to the island republic include palm oil, seafood, crude petroleum and wood products.
Sabah recorded more than RM7 billion trade revenue for the past 2 years (2019- 2020).-pr/BNN
