KUALA LUMPUR,  Politicians from both sides of the divide have been urged to refrain from exploiting the ongoing Covid-19 situation to further their political agendas.

Urging this, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) Tan Sri T.C Goh underscored that they must instead place the interest of the nation and the people first, by focusing on fighting the deadly pandemic.

In an interview by the Sinchew Daily on Sunday, he said, amidst the worsening pandemic, the people do not wish to see escalation in political struggle, which may adversely affect our ongoing efforts in fighting the pandemic.

“If this happens, it would be very unwise, and unfortunate for our country and our people,” he said.

Hence, on behalf of Huazong, Goh urged politicians from both sides of the divide to set aside their political fights and to fully support the decree of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers, to focus on fighting the pandemic, instead.

He emphatically stressed that our politicians must stand by the people during this trying time, as a vast majority of them have been severely affected by the pandemic, with many of them currently struggling to stay alive.

He thus hoped politicians from both sides of the divide could live up to their favourite motto of: “People’s wish is always in my heart!”, and strive to do the right thing in the best interest of the nation and the people, during this challenging time.

“Presently, the people’s biggest wish is to have a speedy economic recovery, so that everyone could return to work and to have a steady income,” he concluded.-pr/BNN
