KOTA KINABALU: No matter how bad is its current financial position, the federal government must not attempt to defer or cancel any development project that has yet to commence in Sabah, said Tan Sri T.C Goh, President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS).
He asserted this while welcoming and supporting Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor’s assurance made in the Sabah State Assembly today that, if the state government received official information from the federal government about the deferment or not continuing any development project, it (state government) would appeal to ensure that project would continue as planned.
Goh who is also a member of Sabah Economic Advisory Council (SEAC) concurred with Hajiji Sabah currently needed a large allocation to develop the state, especially involving the development of public infrastructure to provide comfort to the people.
He said this after leading the leaderships of FCAS in a thanksgiving ceremony held at the Peak Nam Toong Temple here, to pay homage and offerings to the in-house deities there, for a smooth-and-successful organising of the 7th FCAS Sabah International Dragon Boat Race, recently.
Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) contended that, with Sabah being officially listed as one of the six poorest states in the country, it is only appropriate that the federal government provide more attention and development funding to the state, so as to accelerate development of various sectors to better improve the people’s standard of living, instead of making decisions or policies which would inevitably delay the implementation of the much-needed development projects
Also present at the thanksgiving ceremony were, FCAS deputy president cum organising chairman for the 7th FCAS Sabah International Dragon Boat Race Datuk Susan Wong, vice presidents Kapitan Fung Vhun Fatt, Kapitan Lim Vun Chan, Ng Young Wah, youth chief, Chang Jeng Yung, deputy youth chief, Ben Goh, treasurer-general Chen Ee Sheng, and central committee member, Foo Hoe Weng.
In the elaborated Taoist ritual presided over by the chairman of Peak Nam Toong, Lee Hing Boo, the FCAS leaderships also prayed for continued peace, stability, harmony, and economic growth for Sabah and its people.-pr/BNN
