PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC) today expressed its full support to Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, for taking measures to boost Malaysian tourism industry.
MCBC Executive Committee Chairman, Tan Sri T.C Goh expressed this while leading its Executive Committee in a courtesy call on Tiong, at the latter’s office here. Also in attendance was its Executive Director, Datuk Yong Teck Shing.
Goh noted that since being appointed as the Tourism Minister, Tiong has been working hard to attract international tourists, including those from China. He was convinced that with full support and cooperation from various government departments and agencies, Tiong would be able to achieve significant results in this respect.
He thus hoped the relevant government departments and agencies could step up efforts to improve services at various tourist related sectors, including immigration services at the international airports and seaports, in order to give a good impression to our tourists and visitors.
Goh acknowledged that post Covid-19 pandemic and following reactivation of global connectivity, the tourism sector plays a significant role in the economic recovery of the nation.
“Hence, the government should, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, step up efforts to promote Malaysian tourism in the international arena, China included,” he said.
He believed the China tourists with their strong spending power would remain the main target of the Malaysian tourism sector.
“The well-established comprehensive strategic partnership, and an encouraging bilateral trade, between Malaysia and China would also have a favourable impact on the Malaysian tourism sector,” he added.
He also opined that the recent controversy at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) would not adversely affect the good rapport between Malaysia and China, especially following an appropriate and dedicated response from the government and Tiong, personally.-pr/BNN
