KOTA KINABALU: Seri Mengasih Centre (SMC), a registered non-governmental organisation known as the Trustees of the Seri Mengasih Trust, will be holding the BIG Dynamic Rhythm (DR) in celebration of World Autism Month 2025.
This year, the BIG DR event is scheduled for 17th April 2025 (Thursday) at the SM La Salle School Hall, from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
SMC is dedicated to providing specialised training for students with intellectual challenges, ranging from ages 3 to 19. Established in 1981, the Centre has been employing the Kololo Method for over 20 years. It is the only autism centre in Malaysia authorised to use this method, which originates from Japan.
In a significant collaboration, the Japanese Kololo team has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Seri Mengasih Centre, granting it sole authority to implement the Kololo Method for training purposes in Malaysia, under the supervision of Japanese Kololo authorities.
The Kololo Method is an educational training programme developed in Japan for individuals with autism, based on theories of brain development and behaviour modification. It emphasises the importance of group dynamics, recognising that people are social beings who thrive on cooperation, harmony, and structure.
One of the key activities within the Kololo Method is the BIG Dynamic Rhythm (DR). This event, held annually, welcomes parents and guardians to join their children in collective movement, set to specially curated music from the Japanese Kololo Method.
BIG DR serves as a unique physical activity that synchronises movements in a large group through music, specifically designed for students with autism. The event aims to raise awareness of autism while providing participants with opportunities to engage in DR activities in a supportive environment. Furthermore, it acts as a platform to promote the Kololo programme to parents and the wider community, fostering stronger bonds between parents and their children.
Parents will observe their children’s participation and learn how this therapeutic training can be applied at home to enhance their child’s developmental awareness. The programme will also reveal to guests and the public the true essence of the ‘Dynamic Rhythm’ initiative within the Kololo Method.-pr/BNN
