KOTA KINABALU: The Sentuhan Rakyat (People’s Touch) programme held at Putatan Township yesterday was an initiative to help the people to buy food essentials at a reduced price.
Datuk Yahya Hussin the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry said the government through this programme targeted those from the lowest 40 percent income group to get daily necessities at a cheaper price.
He said through this programme the people will save on the purchase of goods such as cooking oil, sugar, rice and flour.
“With the upcoming Ramadhan and Syawal, the demand for these basic items will soar. Therefore, with this sales programme, the government can help the people manage their spending more effectively,” he said.
Yahya who is also the Chairman of the Sabah Cooperative Consultative Council (MPKN) said three cooperatives have also taken the initiative to promote the reduced prices for daily necessities with collaboration from companies such as Bataras Hypermarket .
“The three cooperatives involved are Koperasi Pembangunan Usahasama Masyarakat Maju Berhad (KOPUSAMAJU), Koperasi Kadamaian Kota Belud Berhad and Koperasi Wawasan Rakyat Sabah Berhad.”
He said that other cooperatives who were involved in the exhibitions today could embark on business partnerships with other entrepreneurs and explicate the role, function and concept of cooperatives in society.
Yahya said the programme also fostered unity, friendship and rapport among the people regardless of race and religious beliefs.
Also present during the event was Datuk Marcus Mojigoh, the BN Parliamentary candidate for Putatan.
The programme was jointly organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Sabah, the Malaysian Cooperatives Commission (SKM) Sabah Branch and the 1Malaysia Community (K1M).pr/BNN
