KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister and Upko acting president Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau won in his constituency with help from UMNO.
In this respect, he should not be so arrogant as to say he joined Warisan to kick out UMNO, Sabah UMNO Chief Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said at the State Assembly Sitting today.
He said Tangau had no right to speak about UMNO that way as they were both in Barisan Nasional (BN) as component parties.
“If it had not been for UMNO, Tangau would not have retained his Tuaran seat,” Hajiji said, adding that Tangau was without principles.
Pitas assemblyman Bolkiah Ismail, a former BN member from UMNO who left the party also bore the brunt of Hajiji’s ire when he tried to interrupt the exchange.
He told Bolkiah to keep quiet as he directed his question to Tangau, and did not ask him to talk about UMNO.
Speaking to reporters after the sitting, Hajiji said the future of UMNO was none of Tangau’s concern.
He said, Tangau won during the GE 14 in Tuaran with assistance and hard work by UMNO and BN after the KDM community rejected him.
“Even if many bad-mouth UMNO and BN, they had contributed tremendously to the development in the country and State of Sabah during its 60 years rule, ” he stressed.
“This includes Tangau who had enjoyed the benefits from UMNO and BN. He won in the GE 13 and 14 because of UMNO’s assistance and contribution.”
In this respect, he had no right to criticize UMNO. Saying that he wanted to kick UMNO out of Sabah was not rational and did not make sense.
