KOTA KINABALU: The implementation of the 3-year temporary but renewable pass to illegal immigrants (PSS) in Sabah scheduled to begin on 1st June 2020 must stop.
Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (Anak Negeri) Youth leader Hendrew Sigar has blasted the proposed PSS in its present form as a blatant disregard for the rule of law.
He said Anak Negeri is opposed to the back door tactics to help qualify 600,000 illegal immigrants in Sabah to obtain permanent resident status through PSS which legalize them indefinitely.
Hendrew reiterated previous statements by Anak Negeri President Datuk Henrynus Amin who also questioned the legality of issuing a 3-year renewable temporary pass to foreigners as substitute travel documents without the use of passport.
He said this when commenting in support of the stand taken by Mohd Isquzawan Israq Arsit who is Youth Chief of Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (ARMADA) of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) Negeri Sabah that the Federal and State govnt should review decision to implement renewable temporary pass to illegal immigrants.
Hendrew said Anak Negeri fully support the stand taken by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Sabah ARMADA Youth Chief and will work with local political parties with similar aims and objectives to stop the PSS policy decision deemed to be wrong, controversial, destabilizing and detrimental to the interest of the state.
He avers that PSS not only contravenes the Federal Constitution and the relevant immigration laws but also threatens political stability, national security and sovereignty.
He said the 3-year renewable PSS unless first open for public comments and debated in the State legislstive assembly in a transparent manner has the hallmarks of a politically motivated scheme hatched out by dubious elements in the Warisan led state government to fundamentally change the political demography of the state.
Hendrew took issue with Parti Warisan Sabah for taking advantage of apparent loopholes in immigration law which allow foreigners who stay legally and continuously in Malaysia for 5 years to apply for permanent resident status.
“This is a demographic timebomb since children of permanent residents born in Sabah are actually automatic Malaysian citizens.”
“Recent comment by the National Registration Department on another issue related to citizenship reinforced assertion that childen born to foreigners who are permanent resident are automatic citizens.”
“The NRD’s comment actually proved deep suspicion that PSS real objective is to help illegal immigrants become permanent residents to make their children automatic Malaysian citizens.”
Hendrew said PSS could be a covert operation disguised as regularization exercise to circumvent the immigration law to help legalize and make 600,000 illegal immigrants become eventual citizens.
Anak Negeri therefore urge the Home Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Muhydin Yassin to immediately stop the planned implementation of PSS.
Alternatively, he said the KDN should opt for a non renewable 12-month temporary pass to allow illegal immigrants enough time to obtain their passport issued by their country of origins and apply for the relevant work pass.-pr/BNN
