KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) has vehemently protested against Philippines’baseless claim on Sabah, which was recently rekindled by some Philippines politicians.

“We fully support the firm stand taken by the Sabah state government and Federal government that “Sabah belongs to Malaysia”,”said its president, Tan Sri T.C Goh.

He emphatically assured that Huazong and Chinese community in Malaysia would fully back the government in defending the sovereignty of Malaysia.

He assured this in his brief message issued in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration.

Besides this, he also expressed his aspirations for the coming state elections in Sabah and Sarawak.

“I believe the people of Sabah and Sarawak would exercise their great wisdom to vote for continuous political stability and stable development in various sectors. This is also the best manifestation of the National Day and Malaysia Day’s theme of ‘Malaysia Prihatin’,” he said.

Goh who is also the President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (FCAS) acknowledged that 16 September is a historical and significant day for Malaysians, as it is the day the Federation of Malaysia was formed 57 years ago. The government of Malaysia had thus declared it as the ‘Malaysia Day’.

The theme for this year’s Malaysia Day celebration is “Malaysia Prihatin”, the same theme for this year’s National Day (Merdeka) celebration which was celebrated on 31 August.

“Both 31 August and 16 September are significant days which commemorate our nation gaining of her independence, sovereignty, and its formation.

“All these years, despite our nation i.e the Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak being separated by the South China Sea, Malaysians from west and east Malaysia had nonetheless coexisted harmoniously and worked together towards nation building and shared prosperity,” he said.-pr/BNN
