KOTA KINABALU: All 19 straight A’s students in the Tambunan district will receive a cash reward from their assemblyman Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey G Kitingan.

The cash rewards range from RM1,000 for one student who obtained 10As to RM500 each for four students (8As) and RM300 each for the 14 students who obtained 7As and 6As.

“I am hoping that these cash rewards will encourage them to work harder to achieve excellence at a higher level,” Kitingan said in an online meeting with the students and the Tambunan education office here today.

He hoped these excellent students would continue their education so that one day they would be able to contribute their services to society.

“We at the N39 Tambunan Office are proud of their success and feel that it is our achievement also,” he said.

He also congratulated the Tambunan education officials and the teachers on a job well done and expressed his wish to hold a meeting soon to discuss what else can be done to further improve SPM results in Tambunan.

Nowadays, he said students could study in a more comfortable environment compared to 50 years ago and that most students have access to computers which makes learning simpler.

“We didn’t have computers when I was small. We only had our dreams. But even then, my generation managed to come up well. When I was in Primary 6, I still remember transferring myself to a school in Keningau from Tambunan. I went to see the principal, arranged my own studies until I was admitted to a boarding school.

“I even applied for a scholarship on my own. I was only 12 at the time. If I could achieve all of that back then, imagine what you can do now that everything is at your fingertips. The world is wider for our young people now. I am confident that this would mean more opportunities for them,” he said.

At the same time, Kitingan said those who did not get satisfactory results in the exam should not be disheartened because there are many other opportunities in life.

“In reality, any disappointment serves as a reminder to us to keep fighting for our aspirations. What matters is that we have the determination to set our minds to a goal and pursue our dreams,” he said.-pr/BNN
