KOTA KINABALU: The 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has been dissolved effective today following the consent of His Excellency Tun Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr) Musa bin Haji Aman, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri (Governor) of Sabah.

The Chief Minister of Sabah said he had an audience with the Head of State this morning to advise on the dissolution of the Assembly, paving the way for the 17th Sabah State Election.

“This decision reflects our commitment to democracy and the constitutional process, and it gives the people of Sabah the opportunity to exercise their right to choose who will lead the state,” he said in a statement today.

Over the past five years since assuming the state administration in September 2020, he said the government had worked hard to bring meaningful change and progress through the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan — a holistic and inclusive roadmap for growth.

He explained that the plan is built upon three main pillars — Agriculture, Industry and Tourism; Human Capital and People’s Wellbeing; and Infrastructure Connectivity and Green Sustainability — all of which have delivered tangible progress for the state.

“The government has taken bold and responsible steps to address long-standing inherited issues, particularly in water and electricity supply as well as critical infrastructure. Several major projects have been completed, while others are ongoing to resolve these challenges,” he said.

In addition, the state’s economy has been strengthened through increased investments, job creation, and expanded educational and social welfare assistance.

He also called on the people of Sabah to remain united and to exercise wisdom in the upcoming election.

“Our work is not yet done. With this dissolution, we seek a renewed mandate from the people to continue our efforts to build a stronger, more prosperous, and united Sabah. May the outcome of the election amplify the people’s voice, safeguard stability and security, and ensure continued progress for our beloved state,” he said. – BNN
