KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said there is no merit in a call by a Philippines senator to revive Manila’s claim on Sabah.

“Sabah is a sovereign state within the Federation of Malaysia and should not be questioned. There is no need to make an issue of this or to use the current energy crisis to revive outdated claims,” he said at the State-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Saturday.

About 20,000 people attended the event, which was graced by Head of State Tun Musa Aman and his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, alongside the Chief Minister and his wife Datin Seri Panglima Datuk Juliah Salag.

Earlier, Hajiji and Juliah, accompanied by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Arifin Arif, the event’s main organising chairman presented Duit Raya to the needy before mingling with guests in the public section.

“Our wish is for everyone to live in harmony so we can continue to celebrate all festive occasions peacefully,” he told the people.

At the main event, the Head of State, the Chief Minister and other guests were entertained by various performances, including a set by Malaysian popular singer Marsha Milan Londoh.-pr/BNN
