LAHAD DATU: Lahad Datu has strong potential as a strategic location for a rocket or satellite launch site for the Southeast Asian region, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.

“God willing, in the next few years, if there are no obstacles, Lahad Datu will be the best location to serve as a satellite rocket launch centre for Southeast Asia.

“If this materialises in the next two or three years, Lahad Datu will attract many visitors, including space scientists, to the district.

This will certainly become an economic catalyst for Lahad Datu,” he said at the thanksgiving ceremony and Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 open house hosted by Datuk Haji Abdul Hakim bin Haji Gulam Hassan at Dewan Sri Perdana Lahad Datu here on Thursday.

He added that Lahad Datu is the most suitable district for a rocket or satellite launch site based on final studies conducted by the State Government and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia.

“Many states have lobbied to host this (satellite launch site), but the indicators and studies show that Lahad Datu is the most suitable location for this project,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the State Government will not only continue to bring development to Lahad Datu, but will also prioritise the well-being of the people in the district.

“I had intended several times to visit Lahad Datu, especially before the last election.

However, due to unavoidable circumstances, I was unable to campaign here. That’s alright, we still have the parliamentary elections next year.

“What is important is that our people here remain united and choose the government party for our common good.

The current State Government has done its best for the people and the state of Sabah. We have a clear direction for the people and have achieved many successes in this state.

“Do not listen to slander from irresponsible parties. As Muslims, we must uphold goodness and truth. What the government has done must be conveyed to the people.

I also urge the public not to easily believe accusations, allegations and slander that will ultimately harm us,” he said.-pr/BNN
