The solution combines CelcomDigi’s trusted mobile network intelligence with IPification’s authentication technology to verify that a mobile number genuinely belongs to the user—without relying solely on SMS One-Time Passwords (OTPs). As Malaysia’s first telco to partner with IPification, CelcomDigi is making these verification capabilities available through its API-as-a-Service platform, allowing leading global social media platforms to enhance identity verification during account registration, login, and recovery. This reduces risks associated with fake accounts, identity fraud, and account takeovers, while delivering a faster, more seamless user experience.
T. Kugan, Chief Innovation Officer at CelcomDigi, stated: “Trust is becoming a fundamental pillar of the digital economy, especially as AI transforms online interactions, creation, and connectivity. As we lead the market and expand our API capabilities, we are transforming our network into a programmable digital infrastructure that drives innovation and adds value beyond connectivity. We are empowering enterprises and digital platforms to access trusted network APIs, enabling the development of more secure, seamless, and intelligent digital services.”
Stefan Kostic, CEO of IPification, added: “CelcomDigi’s leadership in unlocking trusted network capabilities through APIs makes them an ideal partner for IPification. As our first telco partner in Malaysia, this collaboration marks a significant milestone in expanding network-based authentication services, allowing global digital platforms to verify users more securely and enhance customer experience.”
Trusted identity signals are vital for improving platform safety as social media platforms increasingly leverage AI to personalise content, detect harmful behaviour, and combat scams. Mobile number verification adds an extra layer of assurance by helping platforms confirm user identities, reducing the risks of fake accounts, impersonation, and fraud. This capability supports seamless onboarding and account creation, protection against fake and duplicate accounts, stronger defence against account takeovers and identity theft, more reliable AI-powered moderation and fraud detection, and greater digital safety for users across online platforms.
This latest initiative builds on CelcomDigi’s expanding portfolio of trusted network APIs, including phone number verification services via Google’s Firebase. As digital platforms evolve with AI-driven experiences, CelcomDigi remains committed to enabling safer, more trusted online interactions through secure network capabilities—helping businesses strengthen identity verification, protect users, and support Malaysia’s growing digital economy.-pr/BNN
