PENAMPANG: Murut women artisans from Nabawan showcased their craftsmanship through a collection of beaded dresses inspired by traditional attire at a Traditional Dress Workshop organised by the KDCA Women’s Council.
Speaking at the workshop, Datuk Joanna Kitingan introduced the “Koonduan Gallery Timeless Elegance Collection”, which draws inspiration from the traditional Murut Pinongkolo costume while incorporating contemporary fashion.
“Every motif tells a story, inspired by nature—from delicate flowers and bamboo shoots to graceful ferns,” she said. “Each design reflects the creativity, imagination and personal expression of the women behind these masterpieces.”
Datuk Joanna described the dresses as more than garments, saying they were wearable works of art that help preserve cultural identity while empowering local women artisans.
The collection is available at Koonduan Gallery in the Magellan Lobby. For enquiries and purchases, members of the public can contact Datuk Joanna or Angie.
She encouraged attendees to celebrate their heritage, honour local artisans and embrace the collection’s timeless elegance.-BNN
