KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) has taken the initiative to launch a “food aid campaign” to help those who have been badly affected by the devastating economic impact of Covid-19 pandemic and the movement control order (MCO).
Announcing this today, its President Tan Sri T.C Goh also called on caring individuals and businesses to join in to support the noble initiative.
He said, the initiative will be accepting applications from those who are in need of food aid, starting 5 July (Monday), and it is open to people of all races and ages. However, it is limited to those residing in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
To ensure transparency and proper record, applications are to be made via online by logging into http://bit.ly/ SumbangsihMakananHUAZONG. Successful candidates will be notified to collect their food basket once the application is processed and approved.
“This initiative has received support from some caring individuals and businesses, including Huazong central committee leaders from various states, and the food baskets will be distributed to the applicants, as soon as possible,” he said in a statement issued on Sunday.
He hoped the said noble initiative could receive more support and sponsorships after this, so that it could assist many more underprivileged individuals and families out there, amidst this difficult time.
He said, the campaign was in response to the ongoing “white flag movement” throughout the country, for those who are badly affected to get help from others. He noted that with Selangor and Kuala Lumpur being the hardest hit areas, many people have lost their jobs and sources of income and are desperately in need of help to put food on the table and to stay alive.
He continued that, being a responsible and caring civil society organization (CSO), Huazong hoped that it could through such an initiative pool in resources from concerned individuals and businesses, in order to assist those underprivileged families who are in need of help.
Meanwhile, Huazong secretary-general cum secretary for the Huazong Food Aid Action Committee, Dato’ Dr Wong Aik Loung noted that, among the items it wished to raise from the sponsors include rice, canned food, flour, biscuits, bread, cooking oil, instant noodles, salt, milk, tooth paste, laundry detergent, face masks, sanitizer, etc.
He said, those who are keen to participate in the said campaign can always deliver the said items to Wisma Huazong, located at Lot 15285, 0.7 KM , Lebuhraya sungai besi, 43300 Seri Kembangan, Selangor, or contact the person in-charge, Mr Lee at 017-2869615.
