KOTA KINABALU: The Luyang Community Hall will become a temporary evacuation disaster shelter to accommodate fire victims of Tanjung Aru floating village which was burnt down early Sunday morning.

Gee Tien Siong the Luyang Community  Development Leader (PPM) said a decision was reached after discussions with various government departments and agencies, including the Luyang Community Development Unit (UPPM) and City Hall Mayor to make Luyang Community Hall as a temporary shelter for the unfortunate fire victims.

He said these victims are local Sabahans.

Gee who is also SAPP Vice President said he wished to inform all residents of Luyang that there is nothing to be worried about, as this arrangement was discussed and informed to all relevant authorities.

There will be officers, PDRM and RELA stationed at the community hall 24 hours to ensure security and safety as well as maintaining order. Meanwhile City Hall will ensure the cleanliness of the area, he said.

“I want to highlight that this is unlike the 13 October 2019 incident, where a flock of undocumented immigrants gathered around Luyang Community Hall neither the Luyang assemblyman, the minister, DBKK nor police were aware of it. That 2019 incident had caused a shock and fears among the people of Luyang.”-pr/BNN
