KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) fervently believes that Tg Aru beach should be preserved in its natural state as much as possible. It is a sanctuary for birds and a place where people go for family picnic or excursion at weekends.
Tanjung Aru beach, a jewel closest to the hearts of locals that brings back nostalgia to Kota Kinabalu folks, said Noraiza Mohd Noor, SAPP Tanjung Aru CLC Chairman and supreme council member.
“With its beautiful sunsets, the iconic beach attracted both local and foreigh tourists,” she said.
“Since the controversial Tanjung Aru Eco Development (TAED) which started in 2017 but was put on hold, Tg Aru beach was left deserted and turned into a mini jungle. Complaints by residents that Tg Aru Beach was losing its beauty and charm due to the future planned development. It is important for the Government as well as the people of Kota Kinabalu to work together to keep the Park clean and maintain its beauty with Aru trees, fauna and flora.
“Recently, many birds were spotted migrating to Tg Aru beach such as the Krakatoa (Kakak tua) and hornbills.
“Prince Phillip Park used to be a vibrant place where many kinds of flora were planted. Some parts in the park were created into orchards.
Noraiza said SAPP has been supportive of enviromentalists. Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee was instrumental in approving the 24 hectares mangrove park (KK Wetlands) in Kota Kinabalu, when he was the Chief Minister in 1996.-pr/BNN
