KUALA LUMPUR; Contract doctors should not be threatened or punished for highlighting their plights and demands through a peaceful demonstration recently, said Tan Sri T.C Goh, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong).
Furthermore, the said demonstration held on Monday throughout the country was well organised without affecting their daily routine works.
He opined that the government should be more rational in dealing with such an isdue, and to quickly engage with the representatives of the said group, to amicably resolve the plights of the contract doctors, especially in regards to their demand for permanent posting in the public healthcare service.
In a statement issued today, Goh said since the Federal Cabinet has recently announced some new measures to address the plights of the contract medical workers, the government should strive to achieve a ‘win-win’ solution through a follow-up negotiation with the group.
Goh who is also President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) further stressed that, as a working democracy, the government should recognise the rights of the medical workers and their significant contributions in sustaining the public healthcare system, especially amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
“We in Huazong fully support the demands of the contract doctors; their long standing legitimate plights should be recognized by the government, with prompt and appropriate actions taken to adequately address them,” he said.
He thus hoped the Ministry of Health (MoH) could take the initiative to engage in an amicable dialogue and negotiation with the representatives of the contract doctors, and to come out with a feasible and acceptable formula to absorb the contract doctors into the government healthcare system.- or/BNN
