PUTRAJAYA: To uplift professional bodies, Heriot- Watt University Malaysia (“HWUM” or the “University”) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the world’s largest professional body for Construction Management and Leadership, the Chartered Institute of Building (“CIOB”), in a virtual signing ceremony on Nov 29.
A press release by the establishment stated that the need for high-skilled talent equipped with the right capabilities and capacities is important to propel the built industry forward.
This is especially important as we work to steer the nation and industry through the intricacies and complexities of making the shift towards greater technology adoption.
In view of this, the MoA aims to formally ink the collaboration between the parties and empower CIOB members to achieve the highest levels of competence and professionalism through lifelong learning.
The MoA signatories were CIOB Malaysia President Ho Chee Leong, CIOB Chief Executive
Officer Caroline Gumble and HWUM Provost and Chief Executive Officer Professor Mushtak
Al-Atabi. Also present to witness the signing ceremony were Senior Vice-President of CIOB
and Honorary Doctorate of Heriot-Watt University Datuk Seri (Dr) Michael Yam and HWUM
Chief Operating Officer and Registrar Janice Yew.
Through the MoA, HWUM will be providing a 10% exclusive bursary for active CIOB members to support their lifelong learning journey with quality UK education at HWUM. In addition, the exclusive bursary is extended to their immediate family members to pursue their Postgraduate Taught (PGT), Undergraduate or Foundation studies.
HWUM Provost and Chief Executive Officer Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi, said “We have
signed an agreement with a leading global professional body to make education accessible to professionals by professionals who want to shape the future. It is as much an integral part of our DNA as it is for CIOB.”
“Positive education is a strategic choice for the University. We are nurturing competent
professionals into becoming purpose-driven leaders who are self-aware and who are efficient in tackling the complexities and uncertainties that we see increasing in our world,” he added.
CIOB Chief Executive Officer Caroline Gumble, stressed “As part of this MoA, we are thankful to HWUM for providing a preferential enrolment fee to CIOB members and their families.
This initiative will further support our goal of encouraging members to commit to continuous development and to seek opportunities for deepening their knowledge and strengthening their skills.”-pr/BNN
