KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) fully supports the Federal government’s move of ensuring the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) is fully implemented.
This includes restoration of 35% of the 222 parliamentary seats to Sabah and Sarawak, which was agreed in the MA63.
Its President Tan Sri T.C Goh said this would better demonstrate the spirit of “Malaysia Day”.
He expressed this while welcoming and supporting the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s recent statement that the Special Council on the Malaysia Agreement (MKMA63), which was presided by him, had during its recent meeting endorsed restoring 35% of the 222 parliamentary seats to Sabah and Sarawak. He thus hoped that the said decision could be expedited.
In his Malaysia Day message issued today, Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) added that the theme for this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations – “Keluarga Malaysia, Teguh Bersama” essentially signifies Peninsular Malaysia, and Sabah, Sarawak are equal partners in the Federation of Malaysia, hence the restoration of the rightful position of Sabah and Sarawak in the true spirit of the MA63, is necessary and paramount.
Besides this, he also welcomed the Prime Minister’s recent assurance that the government is committed to develop Sabah and Sarawak in Budget 2023 which will be tabled on 7 October.
Goh also reiterated that Sabah and Sarawak are an important component of Malaysia, and that Malaysia Day has been celebrated on 16 September, annually, since the year 2009, to commemorate the formation of Malaysia, while the National Day, which is equally significant, was celebrated on 31 August, every year.-pr/BNN
