KOTA KINABALU: Another lunar year has passed as we welcome a new year, the year of the Rabbit.
Personally and having analysed the many challenges facing Sabah, I am confident that Sabah will come out stronger than ever before in a new Malaysia of political re-alignments amidst a chaotic world order with multiple centres of power.
Contrary to many predictions by economic analysts as reported in the media, I believe that the year of the Rabbit 2023 will not be a year of economic recession for Asia, including Sabah.
Instead, in Sabah, the main indicators of economic growth such as increasing investments in manufacturing, in energy production, in food production, in real estate, in tourism and in logistics will see Sabah continuing to grow healthier than ever before.
As for Malaysia, our eyes are set on the need for political stability.
The plus side of Malaysia’s political changes ever since the momentous change of 2018 is that Malaysians can now heave a sigh of relief that changes of federal governments do not lead to chaos and street violence.
In the last five years, Malaysians have seen five Prime Ministers, a situation that we used to joke about other countries like Italy and Japan.
My message to Malaysians in Sabah is to stay healthy, work hard and be happy.
