She pledged to prioritise mental health issues and collaborate with relevant authorities to provide assistance and services to those in need.

Reflecting on her tenure, the Immediate Past President, Datuk Aminah Ambrose, highlighted the club’s notable achievements in various community service activities, with a particular emphasis on education. One significant initiative was the Rural-focused English (REAL) programme, successfully launched in multiple elementary schools across Sabah.

The REAL programme was introduced in three schools in Tawau, namely SRJK (c) Kuok Ming, SK Perdana, and SK Melody. It was later expanded to include four elementary schools in Kudat, as well as schools in Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Keningau, and several others. This philanthropic endeavour aimed to improve English proficiency among rural students.

With a new team at the helm, RCKKPearl would continue making a positive impact on the local community and beyond.

During the installation dinner, the esteemed Guest of Honour, Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, the Minister of Finance, announced a much-appreciated RM100,000 grant to support the club’s commendable efforts. The Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl (RCKK Pearl) had already raised nearly RM400,000 through donations and various fundraising initiatives.

Masidi emphasised the importance of NGOs partnering with the State Government for community development projects, particularly in rural areas. He commended RCKK Pearl for their exemplary projects in Ranau, Pitas, and other remote regions.

He praised RCKK Pearl for its efficient and successful track record in executing community development initiatives, not only for their unwavering commitment but also their ability to maximise impact while being mindful of expenditure.

The Minister expressed his belief that collaborations between the government and NGOs were most effective approach for such projects. By prioritising efficiency and cost-effectiveness, more people could benefit from the resources available.

The Minister’s grant, along with the dedicated efforts of RCKK Pearl and the support of generous donors, would bring about positive change. The extended partnership between NGOs and the State Government could result in prosperous community development endeavors in the future.

“This is not a blanket grant where the club is free to spend as they wish, however, it is the Government’s gesture of acknowledgment and support for their future water supply projects for villages in Pitas, Kota Marudu and  Ulu Sugut in Ranau.

While speaking to reporters during the dinner, Masidi added that the State Government is open to considering applications from other organisations with specific and well-defined community projects.

“Sometimes it is not just about having the funding to undertake projects, but also the ability to stretch resources effectively, and RCKK Pearl has excelled in this aspect as they are diligent in managing funds raised through hard work and dedication,” he said.-BNN
