KOTA KINABALU: The University College Sabah Foundation (USCF) and Renewable Energy Association of Sabah (REASabah) plan to collaborate on areas related to energy development in Sabah, particularly renewable energy, to preserve the state’s heritage in the green environment as a whole.
This was discussed during the REASabah delegation’s courtesy visit to the UCSF campus in Sembulan here today.
The delegation was led by its Chairman, Datuk Ir. Peter Lajumin. Also present were its Deputy Chairman Datuk Dr Kok Tiong Chee and EXCOM members Ir. Cheng Sau Yee, Ir. Albert Chia Ket Shin and Loraine Lowrince.
UCSF Vice Chancellor Dr Rafiq Idris, who received them, said the potential collaboration is part of UCSF’s ongoing efforts to complement research on the energy sector, specifically renewable energy.
He said UCSF will work with relevant stakeholders who have the competency and expertise in the energy sector to complement the research needs as well as educate students and researchers on matters related to energy.
Thanking UCSF for the hospitality in receiving the REASabah delegation, Peter said the objective of REASabah’s visit is to provide a platform for sharing of experiences amongst members, which comprise developers and operators in renewable energy, as well as consultancy service providers in various green renewable energy schemes.
He said REASabah is confident that there is an enormous quantum of green renewable energy resources that can be exploited while preserving the green environment heritage in the state.
The inputs and participation from academic institutions are imperative in this process, he added.-pr/BNN
