KOTA KINABALU: The preparation for the FCAS International Dragon Boat Race is progressing smoothly with full cooperation and support from various sectors, said Datuk Susan Wong, the Deputy President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) cum organising chairman of the race.
She is confident that as long as the Chinese community, all institutions of the FCAS, and the members of the organising committee continue to work hard, this annual international event will proceed smoothly and meet its targets, achieving the expected results.
She said, this year’s event also coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, making it one of the celebration activities, thereby adding more significance to the event.
She said this while presiding over a meeting of the organising committee at the association’s conference room here, yesterday. Also in attendance were FCAS Vice President cum Vice Chairman of the organising committee, Kapitan Fung Chun Fatt, the other three Vice Presidents of FCAS, Ng Young Wah, Chang Jeng Yung and Shirley Wong, and Secretary-general Datuk Yong Soo Pin, among others.
She also gave a detailed report on the progress of the preparation work, stating that the event has received strong support and cooperation from relevant Sabah state government agencies. These include the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, Sabah Maritime Department, Sabah Ports Authority, Sabah Civil Defence Force, Sabah Health Department, Sabah Police Volunteer Reserve Corps, Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Kota Kinabalu District Police, Kota Kinabalu Marine Police, as well as medical advisors, doctors, and ambulances. She expressed her gratitude for such dedicated support.
Meanwhile, Fung in his briefing noted that, as of now, the dragon boat race has attracted numerous teams from within our country (Sabah, Sarawak, and Penang), Brunei, and Singapore. The number of sponsors, including major sponsors and advertisers for the Special Issue of the event, is in the dozens, showing positive and encouraging progress.
In addition, to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, promote and pass on the excellent traditional Chinese culture, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, and to promote food and cultural creations, a “Beach Market” will be launched during the event.
