KOTA KINABALU: Sabah welcomes TotalEnergies’ interest in establishing a long-term presence in the state and strengthening the state’s position in the regional energy sector.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said Sabah offers significant untapped deepwater exploration potential and welcomed technically capable partners to unlock these resources.
“Sabah seeks to partner with reputable investors to bring capabilities in deepwater exploration and efficient, sustainable production to unlock its full upstream potential,” he added.
The Chief Minister said this during the meeting with TotalEnergies EP Malaysia Managing Director, Jerome Saniez at Menara Kinabalu on Tuesday.
TotalEnergies, a French global multi-energy company is one of the top five players with a strong and growing global LNG and upstream portfolio.
At the meeting, Saniez briefed the Chief Minister on TotalEnergies operations and is currently operating in ultra-deepwater exploration off Sabah waters, with a 34.9 per cent participating interest, together with Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and Shell.
TotalEnergies is also involved in five other blocks off Sabah waters and participates in key offshore gas assets in Sarawak.
Saniez told Hajiji that TotalEnergies is confident that Sabah is a strong next step for the company, given the significant offshore potential, growing gas demand, investor-friendly policies, and strong support at both State and Federal levels.
