SANDAKAN : Datuk Walter Kenson, President of Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) and Organising Chairman of the Sandakan District Harvest Festival Celebration, hosted  Datuk James Ratib, Sabah Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation and Vice President of KDCA, at the launch of the month-long Harvest Festival celebration held at Sandakan Community Centre today.

Also present was Datin Ivy Wong, wife of the MPS President and Chairperson of Puspanita Sandakan.

A number of senior members of Sandakan Heritage Trail, led by Founder and Chairman Lai King Hang, were also in attendance to show their support for Datuk Walter Kenson.

In his remarks, Lai said cultural heritage serves as a cornerstone of unity by fostering social cohesion and mutual respect among Sabah’s multicultural and multi-faith communities.

He said Sandakan Heritage Trail is a community volunteer programme established primarily to raise awareness among young people of the importance of heritage and culture.

He added that a united and resilient community is built upon diversity, expressed through both living and intangible heritage.

Lai also stressed the importance of preserving culture for the benefit of both individuals and society, noting that Sabah’s Harvest Festival is a strong example of how traditions from the past are carried into the present as a meaningful celebration for all Sabahans.-pr/BNN
