KUALA LUMPUR:Mexican entrepreneurs are welcomed to invest in Malaysia, so as to enhance bilateral trade relations between the two nations, said Tan Sri T.C Goh, president of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong).
“Malaysia’s strategic location in Asia is an ideal trade transit hub for entrepreneurs from Latin America and Mexico, to set up factories and to distribute their products throughout the region,” he said.
He said this during the courtesy call by the Mexican ambassador to Malaysia Carlos Felix Corona and his two senior officers, María Amelia Vélez Cuellar and Luis Enrique Vértiz Avelar, at Wisma Huazong, on Monday. Also in attendance were, Huazong’s Secretary-general Dato’ Dr Wong Aik Loung, his deputy Yong Yew Wei, Central Committee members Dato’ Jeffrey Ng Chin Heng and Datuk Lee Teck Wah, who are also Huazong’s International Foreign Investment Bureau chairman and Economic Bureau deputy chairman, respectively.
Goh reckoned that Malaysia’s free trade market and the government’s business-friendly policies would facilitate Mexican manufacturers setting up of their factories in Malaysia, and to allow them to tap into the vast consumer market in Asia, at a lower cost.
“Businesses of the two countries can also explore the potential of conducting businesses through joint ventures that are mutually beneficial and could bring the two nations closer,” he added.
He further noted that although Malaysia and Mexico had long-establish bilateral trade relations of over 40 years, the growth in bilateral trade volume over the years has been marginal, in the region of USD several billions. He thus believed there’s still room and great potential for improvement in this aspect.
Goh also thanked Corona and his officers for the courtesy call and taking time to visit the Chinese Museum housed in Wisma Huazong.
Corona meanwhile commended Huazong for its unwavering commitment, contributions and continuous efforts of being the uniting force for the Chinese community in Malaysia.
Acknowledging that the Malaysian Chinese’s contributions to the progress and development of Malaysia was undeniable and must not be ignored, Corona pledged to make the struggle of Malaysian Chinese a lesson for fellow Mexicans.-pr/BNN
