KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) is grateful for the first shipment of 200,000 single dose CanSino vaccines arrived in the form of ‘Finished Product’ received from supplier CanSino Biologics, China yesterday.
The first single-dose COVID-19 vaccine in Malaysia arrived at Kuala Lumpur Airport (KLIA) via Malaysia Airlines flight MH361 at 8.43am on Friday.
According to SAPP President Datuk Yong Teck Lee, the CanSino Vaccine will be able to speed up the National Covid19 Immunization (PICK) program in Sabah, especially those living in the interior who have difficulty accessing PPVs to nearby towns. The single dose vaccine will avoid the burden of commuting twice if 2-dose vaccine were used.
The success of the vaccination program will bring about an earlier economic recovery which is urgently needed.
The Sabah Chief Minister had earlier said in a statement that Sabah had applied for 1.8 million CanSino vaccines.
Datuk Yong suggested that the vaccine be sent directly from Beijing to Kota Kinabalu without having to go through KLIA.
“This is to avoid the possibility of the vaccine being sent elsewhere,” Yong said.-pr/BNN
