KOTA KINABALU: The Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl is set to host its highly anticipated ninth installation ceremony on July 29th at a prestigious hotel in the city. This annual event serves as a platform to commemorate the club’s achievements and unveil its new leadership team.
Rosie Chong will be assuming the role of President, succeeding Datuk Aminah Ambrose, who will transition into the role of immediate Past President. Rosie expressed her commitment to upholding the club’s legacy of excellence, particularly in their efforts to support rural communities and the underprivileged.
In addition to continuing the club’s ongoing initiatives, she outlined her vision for expanding their projects to include mental health management and advocacy. She emphasised the importance of collaborating with relevant organisations and experts in this sector.
Reflecting on her tenure, Aminah highlighted the club’s accomplishments in various community service activities, including a strong focus on education.
The Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl will continue its philanthropic endeavors with the successful launch of the Rural-focused English (REAL) initiative in multiple elementary schools across Sabah.
Recently, the club inaugerated REAL in three schools in Tawau, including SRJK (c) Kuok Ming, SK Perdana, and SK Melody. The project has also been introduced in four elementary schools in Kudat and extended to schools in Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Tenom, Keningau, and several others.
The REAL project aims to enhance English language proficiency among rural students and equip them with essential skills for their educational and professional journeys. The Club remains dedicated to collaborating with relevant stakeholders and experts to ensure the success and sustainability of this program.
In further efforts to improve the lives of the underprivileged, the club initiated the ‘Free Cataract Surgery for B40 Women’ campaign on World Sight Day. This charitable endeavor, which began during the presidency of Past President Eliza Goh, continues under the leadership of President Aminah Ambrose.
EyeMedics Specialist Centre, partnering with the club’s signature project ‘Hope in Sight,’ carries out the surgical procedures.
Additionally, the club’s commitment to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects is evident in the successful implementation of a water catchment and distribution system in five villages in Ranau. This initiative, originally initiated during the term of Past President Datuk Dr. Sharifah Habsah, has been further benefitted by the efforts of Project Chair Datuk Suzanah Liaw, Secretary Catherine Liew, and Community Service Director Tulip Noorazyze, among several others. The villagers now have access to running water through the newly constructed water catchment and tank.
To fund their various community service activities, the Club will be hosting their ninth installation night dinner at the Magellan Sutera. Tickets for the event will be available at RM10,000, RM5,000, and RM3,000 per table. The funds collected from this event will directly contribute to the club’s ongoing projects.
The Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl’s unwavering commitment to making positive changes in their community highlights the impact that dedicated individuals and organisations can have in improving lives and advancing social causes.-BNN
