KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah football team manager Ronald Cooke has congratulated Sabah FC on their recent MFL Challenge Cup 2026 triumph, describing it as a victory the state desperately needed after years of languishing in defeats.

“This win shows that Sabah has what it takes to succeed. It should boost the morale of the team to strengthen its winning ways and make Sabahans proud again,” Cooke said.

Beyond the celebrations, Cooke noted that the victory carries deeper meaning for Sabah football.

After years of inconsistency, financial struggles and player turnover, the MFL Challenge Cup win signals that the team can rise above its challenges and restore pride to the state.

He said the triumph should serve as a foundation for building stronger structures in player development, management, and fan engagement.

Cooke also praised Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Nizam Titingan for his proactive leadership and hands-on support since taking office.

“From Day One, Nizam has been deeply involved in Sabah sports. Under his leadership, I believe Sabah will see a brighter sporting future. Kudos to the new sports minister,” he added.

Cooke said that it was important for all sports association to engage with Nizam in getting their sports reach greater heights for the pride of the state and the nation.

“I also want to encourage other sports associations to work closely with the Minister for the benefit of Sabah sports as a whole,” he added.
