SANDAKAN : The Sandakan Forwarders Association (SFA) carried out a working visit to Sandakan Port this week to discuss operational matters and service improvements for port users.

The delegation, led by SFA chairman Chong Thien Ming and committee members, met Sandakan Port manager Puan Hayati to raise current concerns and present proposals to enhance port services and efficiency.

Chong highlighted several issues, including the installation of additional CCTV cameras to bolster safety and security, full utilisation of the weighbridge to reduce traffic congestion, and proper maintenance of container‑handling equipment to ensure smooth operations.

Hayati assured the delegation that the matters raised would be addressed promptly to prevent congestion and improve operational efficiency within the port area.

She also confirmed that Warehouse B has been fully dismantled and the site is expected to be in use as a container yard by July.

In addition,  Hayati said the head office is procuring new assets and equipment to strengthen port operations and support future growth.

Chong thanked  Hayati for her swift attention and commitment to resolving the issues. He also emphasised the importance of continuous monitoring and maintenance of port machinery to minimise breakdowns and ensure uninterrupted service for port users.

The visit underlines the ongoing partnership between the SFA and Sandakan Port to improve efficiency, safety and service quality for the logistics and forwarding industry.-pr/BNN
