KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has expressed, on behalf of the Sabah State Government, his appreciation for the gracious contribution bestowed by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, to victims affected by fire disasters in Kudat and Sandakan.
The contribution, amounting to RM500,000, was presented by the Managing Trustee of the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation, Tan Sri Dato’ Avinderjit Singh, to the Chief Minister in the presence of His Majesty at Istana Negara today.
“This reflects His Majesty’s concern and compassion for the people of Sabah who have been affected by these disasters.
“The State Government greatly appreciates the contribution and support extended, particularly following the fire tragedy in Kampung Gumpa, Kudat, and the major fire incident in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that the Sabah State Government, through the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Sabah, will continue to strengthen efforts in coordinating welfare assistance, managing temporary evacuation centres, and ensuring that the welfare and well-being of affected victims remain safeguarded.
Also present were State Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Sr Safar Untong, Secretary for Home Affairs and Research Datuk Awang Shahminan Sahari, Sandakan Municipal Council President Datuk Walter Kenson, and Kudat District Officer Charles William Dabbi.
On 16 April this year, eight houses were destroyed in a fire affecting 67 victims in Kampung Gumpa, Kudat. Meanwhile, on 18 April, a major blaze engulfed 1,050 houses in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, affecting 914 heads of household.-pr/BNN
