KENINGAU: Marq Jayson Michael, 18, a student at Kolej Vokasional (KV) Keningau, has been selected to represent Malaysia alongside three other students from the country for the Sports Visitor programme in Boston, United States, fully sponsored by the US government from 10th to 25th July 2026. In addition to the Malaysian delegation, six other countries, Germany, Colombia, Turkmenistan, Hong Kong, and Kenya, were chosen to participate in this programme.

Marq Jayson Michael was selected through a screening process held at KV Keningau after the institute was chosen by the US Embassy Kuala Lumpur to send a representative to the US, with expenses fully funded by the U.S. Department of State. KV Keningau was selected due to its excellent reputation in sports, English language, academics, and community projects. Marq Jayson, a culinary arts student at the college who is actively involved in football, was among those chosen.

The two-week programme, based at Boston University, comprised lectures and classes related to sports, training, football and volleyball matches, as well as visits to various sites to deepen understanding of the local culture while studying specific topics. This initiative is part of the Freedom 250 campaign, celebrating 250 years since the formation of the United States of America.

According to Marq Jayson, who is currently still in the US, he feels very fortunate to be selected for this programme, especially as he is representing not only Malaysia but also Sabah state and a vocational college under the Department of Education and Training, Malaysia’s Ministry of Education.

Marq is expected to arrive back in Malaysia on 27th July 2026. The Director of KV Keningau, Lumang anak Lang, expressed pride in this achievement, as it demonstrates how vocational college students can reach far across the globe. It also proves that vocational college education can adequately equip students to face the outside world.-pr/BNN
