SANDAKAN: The 16th Borneo Bird Festival will be held on 7 and 8 November 2026 at the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) in Sepilok, Sandakan.

The annual festival promotes awareness of Borneo’s birdlife and the importance of protecting the forests and ecosystems on which wildlife and communities depend. Organisers say it attracts an average of 5,000 visitors each year and supports the growth of bird and wildlife tourism in Sabah.

Visitors can take part in birdwatching and photography activities, talks, exhibitions and family events. The programme is designed to engage local communities, students and international visitors, while showcasing how nature tourism can support local guides, homestays, transport providers and food businesses.

The RDC is home to Bornean endemic species, including the Bornean Bristlehead, Bornean Falconet and Black-and-crimson Pitta. Its Rainforest Skywalk extends 620 metres through the forest canopy.

The organisers acknowledged the support of the Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS), the Sabah Tourism Board and the Sabah Forestry Department.
