KOTA KINABALU: UMNO members in Sabah will be augmented with the participation of more than 200 people within the next few months.

According to a businesswoman Zahara Ismail, she is currently seeking out potential members especially among youth who have yet to be members of any party.

“I think there are many people out there who are not affiliated to any party and I would like to get them to join UMNO,” she said adding that youth who are of voting age should be accorded a platform for political ideologies.

Zahara who was formerly a Warisan member said youth should also be accorded knowledge on their rights and understand their civic duty to form a government through the voting process.

“Of course, we welcome membership applications from everybody no matter how old they are. We welcome those from other parties and former UMNO members to join the party and we hope they will come forward and join us in our cause,” she stressed.

According to her she was attracted to join UMNO due to her strong conviction that Datuk Bung Moktar Radin, the UMNO State Chairman, can bring about more development for the State.

She said since the pandemic occurred and the Movement Restrictions Order (MCO) in its various stages had be imposed, businesswomen like her, in many types of businesses had been severely impacted.

Recovery will not be easy especially when the business participants do not have the resources or financial power to sustain their businesses, she stressed, and believed that a strong leadership needed to be in place to ensure that recovery is facilitated.

She said she will be meeting people especially the grassroots among her friends and family to expound on the relevance of UMNO in the political arena.-pr/BNN
