KOTA KINABALU: The ban of seafood export should be supported.
Sabah UMNO Women Chief Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid said she supported Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Junz Wong’s efforts to ban seafood export.
She said this in a statement in response to Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee’s comment in a local broadsheet newspaper on Dec 5.
Yong had claimed that there was a asurplus of seafood, hence the exports.
“In the same Newspaper dated December 2, 2018,it was claimed that a United Nations report published in March this year ie 2018, stated that in 30 years all Commercial fishing could cease in the Asia-Pacific region” if existing threats to region’s biodiversity are not acted upon”.
“I feel this includes farming in Mangroves which must be proteced,” she stressed.
“We must keep our Seafood and make Sabah a seafood haven for tourist and keep prices lower.”
“Although we should encourage our business Community, we must first keep our responsibility to the Rakyat.”
She also commented that Yong wanted to look North but didn’t raise to the problems regarding the claims of the Communist China on Our Sea.
On this matter, he is strangely quiet she said.-by LSK/BNN
