KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno Wanita wing  asked the State Government to sack State Water Department Director, Amarjit Singh, for failing to improve the clean water supply services and management in the State.
Its Chief, Datuk Dr. Hajah Jainab Datuk Seri Panglima Ahmad Ayid, said the clean water supply situation in Sabah has not improve following the restructuring exercise done on the department, instead it seems like getting worsen with many areas reported to not have enough supply.

“The government of the day caused headaches to many people. Poor services and poor management under the leadership of Amarjit Singh.

“Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal did say the restructuring of State Water Department was to make it a better, effective and efficient department, and the same with the appointment of Amarjit Singh. But today the department concerned is at the poorest state in terms of services and management,” she said, in a statement, Saturday.

Dr Jainab, who is also formerly State Welfare Services and Consumer Affairs Minister, said she has received complains on issues related to the said department.

Among them are residents at Taman Bukit Sepanggar here who complained of having been out of water since Mar 13, although a notice they received from the department stated there will be distruption of supply on Mar 15 and 16, leaving them with no water supply for four consecutive days.

She said there were also complaint from the 1335 former workers of the water concessionaires, who had been absorbed by the department as its workers following the termination of the concessionaires’ contract by the State Government, who complained in the social media that their salary have not been paid since Jan 15.

“I think we need truly competent and visionary experts in water supply to revamp the entire water supply system. And they must enforce this rigorously .

“I believe in some parts of the Peninsula they seems do not have any treated water supply problem.

“I am with the rest Sabahans who are very concerned and worried over the clean water supply problem we are facing in Sabah and in wanting the Chief Minister to replace Amarjit with other person who is more capable of bringing overall improvement.

“If you have wrongly chosen a person as Director of the State Water Department, just change it apa malu bossku (what is there to be ashamed of sir),” she said.-pr/BNN
