KOTA KINABALU:   School bus operators in the State are thankful to the RM 600 special assistance from the Federal Government.
The message was conveyed by their respective representatives to Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) chairman Dato’ Chin Kim Hiung here on Saturday following the announcement by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong.
The various school bus associations representing 1,104 school bus operators in Sabah also expressed appreciation to Chin for facilitating in the efforts to assist their members in getting the special assistance.
 Chin was grateful to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Wee, and hoped the special assistance could help lessen the burden of the recipients.
 Chin said he would continue to work closely with the Transport Minister and continue to raise issues affecting the land transport sector in Sabah including school bus operators to the latter in the interest of the group.
 On Friday, Wee in his Facebook said the Federal Government approved RM600 special assistance for each of the 35,000 eligible school bus drivers nationwide.
 Wee said the government grant came up to a total of RM21 million.
“This scheme is part of the Prihatin initiative that was launched by the Prime Minister on March 27 as a bulwark for the country during the economic and social crises due to the Covid-19 pandemic, ” he said in a Facebook post on Friday (July 10).
 Wee said the movement control order (MCO) has affected many segments of society in the nation’s continuing efforts to contain further outbreaks of the Covid-19 pandemic.
 School bus operators, Wee said, is one of the many groups that the ministry had been attempting to help weather this period of uncertainty through various measures.-pr/BNN
