KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Film and Video Association (KKFVA) was disappointed and saddened when they were excluded from joining a meeting with the Finas Chief Executive Officer Prof Dr. Md Nasir Ibrahim and Sabah creative industry players in Kota Kinabalu.
KKFVA’s president, Katak Chua said when he was informed last week by a film director, Tony Gitom that the CEO of Finas would come to Kota Kinabalu, KKFVA held discussions with its committee members to discuss the problems and suggestions to improve the creative industry in Sabah. He said, the suggestions will be presented to Finas CEO, but unfortunately, this had happened.
“Since the appointment of Dr. Md Nasir on 30 October 2021, we saw many activities have been implemented but concentrated in Peninsular Malaysia. We are happy to know Dr. Md Nasir will hold a meeting with the creative activists in Sabah but we are still frustrated, especially knowing the members of the KKFVA association are excluded from the meeting,” Chua said.
Chua also said that it is time for the K-KOMM minister to “turun padang” like what the previous minister did. The Minister needs to know and understand the scenario of creative activists in Sabah and Sarawak, especially after being affected by the covid 19 pandemic.
Katak Chua is the Director of the film “Craze Below The Wind” which has now entered its second week of screenings in 14 cinemas nationwide since May 26, 2022.
