KOTA KINABALU: The proposal to establish a government based on one race and religion will put the country in a very dangerous situation.
UPKO Youth Chief Felix Joseph Saang said that this will not only create problems, but it will also destroy the bonds of unity that have been built over the years.
He said it is common knowledge that Malaysia was built on the foundation of support from various races, and that the fundamental principle shouldn’t be disputed.
“It must be remembered that our country was formed based on the understanding of various communities of different races, ethnicities, customs, beliefs, and religions.
“I am very confident that the people of Sabah and Sarawak will strongly reject the idea or proposal because it can be considered absurd and outdated,” said Felix.
He said this when asked to comment on the proposal by Gerakan Pembela Ummah (UMMAH) to establish a Malay-Muslim government without DAP in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
Felix said that since the establishment of Malaysia in 1963, we have practiced a democratic system in the country.
He said he could not see where the logic is in giving suggestions that only certain races can lead this country.
“The Malaysian Constitution also gives rights and freedoms to all Malaysians.
“Why is there a proposal to restrict the rights and freedoms of other races in our country?” he stressed.
In that regard, Felix said that the authorities need to monitor and take action against extreme political movements like this.
He said, “It is clearly used by some parties who only use racial and religious issues for their political interests.”
“It needs to be prevented early before it becomes serious because this action will only harm the country, including the future of young people,” he said.-pr/BNN
