KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Skin Cancer Conference (SSCC) 2026 is set to take place on July 4, 2026, at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu, bringing together leading local and international experts to discuss advancements in skin cancer management.
Organised by the Sabah Plastic Academic Club, Hospital Queen Elizabeth, the conference carries the theme “Defining Margins, Refining Outcomes”, highlighting the importance of precision in diagnosis, surgical management and reconstruction to improve patient outcomes.
The one-day main conference will be preceded by a Preconference PRS Suturing and Scar Management Workshop on July 3, 2026, from 8am to 5pm at PGMC, Hospital Queen Elizabeth. The workshop, organised by the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit under the theme “Excise, Suture, Beautify”, will focus on practical skills in suturing techniques and scar management.
Call for Abstracts
The Scientific Committee is calling for submissions of original research and case reports related to skin cancer. Selected abstracts will be featured as poster presentations, while shortlisted submissions will be given the opportunity for oral presentation and to compete for prizes.
Abstracts must be submitted in English, with a maximum of 300 words, structured under Introduction, Methods, Results and Conclusion. Submissions should include the title, authors’ names and affiliations, with the presenting author underlined. The deadline for submission is June 1, 2026. Key Topics and Speakers
The conference will feature Malaysian and international specialists from plastic surgery, dermatology, oncology, orthopaedic oncology, pathology and anaesthesiology.
Among the key topics to be discussed are:
• Melanoma classifications and clinical significance
• Differentiating benign and malignant skin tumours
• Advances in surgical margins and reconstruction techniques
• Histopathology and immunohistochemistry in skin malignancies
• Soft tissue sarcomas mimicking cutaneous tumours
• Systemic therapies including targeted therapy and immunotherapy
• Pain management in cutaneous tumours
• Genetic and hereditary syndromes associated with skin cancers
• Complications and salvage strategies in reconstruction
A keynote lecture will address the evolving landscape of cutaneous malignancies, from early detection to advanced reconstruction.
Public Engagement: “That Spot Matters” Video Competition
In conjunction with the conference, organisers have launched the “That Spot Matters” video competition to raise public awareness on skin cancer prevention, early detection and multidisciplinary care.
Participants are invited to create a creative one- to two-minute video and post it on Instagram, tagging @sabahscc2026 with the hashtag #SSCC2026 and tagging five friends. Submissions open on February 15, 2026. Winners stand a chance to receive a complimentary seat to the main conference.
