KOTA KINABALU: President of the Che Hor Khor Moral Uplifting Society Penampang, Wong Sound Sing, along with Deputy President 1, Datuk Frankie Liew, welcomed the assurance given by Assistant Minister of Finance, Datuk Ben Chong Chen Bin, that he would do his utmost to secure financial support from the State Government for the Society’s Chinese Cultural Centre Project. This project involves the construction of a centre incorporating a temple on a 6.6-acre site at Bukit Padang, near here.

Chong provided this assurance during his officiation at the Society’s 24th Anniversary celebration at the Sabah Hakka Hall on Friday evening.

Wong, when approached at the event, acknowledged the RM100,000 contribution from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS) towards the project’s Building Fund, which was allocated during the tenure of its former Minister, Datuk Seri Christina Liew.

Liew, who was recently appointed Chairman of Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, believes that once the impressive architectural structure is completed, it will serve not only as the Society’s official premises but also as a new tourist attraction in Penampang.

Chinese Cultural Centre Project Director, Ir. K.J. Tan, when interviewed regarding the progress of work, stated that earthworks for site preparation were 90 per cent complete. “The next stage involves constructing the access road to the site and starting piling work,” he said, adding that both the building plans and road plans are currently under approval by the relevant authorities.-pr/BNN
