KOTA KINABALU : Sabah Inspector General of Projects, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, today met with the Deputy Director of the Public Works Department (JKR), Ir Mohammad Safri Bin Abdul Habi responsible for the implementation of the Pan Borneo Highway project in Sabah.

Salleh said the meeting was held to obtain a briefing on the current progress of the project, including the implementation status of each ongoing package.

According to him, the discussion focused on packages that are progressing according to schedule, as well as those experiencing delays or not achieving progress as planned.

“The Pan Borneo Highway is one of Sabah’s most important infrastructure projects. It is not merely about roads, but also about connectivity between districts, the movement of people, economic activity, logistics and the overall development of the state,” he said.

Salleh said the meeting also discussed possible actions to help resolve issues affecting the implementation of several packages that are not progressing according to schedule.

He stressed that the approach of the Sabah Project Inspectorate Office (Menpro) is not to find fault with any party, but to understand the actual challenges on the ground and work with implementing agencies to find practical solutions.

“Our focus is on solutions. We want to understand the real problems, strengthen coordination and help ensure that important projects such as Pan Borneo can be implemented more effectively,” he said.

Salleh said he will visit several packages that are behind schedule to observe the actual situation on site and obtain a clearer picture of the challenges faced.

He said the visits are important to enable Menpro to assess implementation issues directly and identify appropriate follow-up measures to help accelerate project progress.

He also stressed that project delays must be addressed as early as possible, particularly at a time when construction and logistics costs are becoming increasingly challenging.

“Every delay can affect costs and ultimately reduce the benefits that should be received by the people. Therefore, project implementation according to schedule is very important,” he said.

Salleh added that Menpro will continue to work closely with JKR and relevant agencies to help strengthen the monitoring, coordination and implementation of development projects in Sabah.-pr/BNN
