KOTA KINABALU: The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) has called on all Malaysians, politicians from both sides of the divide included, to fully demonstrate the spirit of this year’s National Day celebration – Malaysia Prihatin (Malaysia Cares), in helping the nation and the people in various sectors to get through this devastating time of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Its President, Tan Sri T.C Goh underscored that amidst the onslaught of the pandemic, economic recession and political turmoil, all Malaysians, the leaders of various sectors especially, should exhibit greater care for the nation, and to assist the country and the society to navigate through this toughest challenge that our nation ever faced since its independence.

“This year’s National Day celebration theme remains the same as last year’s Malaysia Prihatin” (Malaysia Cares) as we are celebrating our National Day amidst the pandemic, and economic and political challenges. Hence, it has become even more urgent and necessary Malaysians of all strata of society to care for each other,” he said.

Goh who is also a member of the Sabah Economic Advisory Council (SEAC) and President of the Federation of Sabah and Labuan Hokkien Associations (FSLHA) said this in a statement issued today, after attending the launch of the state-level National Day month-long celebration and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at the State Administrative Centre here, on Monday.

The said event was officiated by Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor; Goh who represented the chambers of commerce and industry received the Jalur Gemilang from Hajiji. Also in attendance were deputy chief minister Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, Sabah State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Kadzim M. Yahya, State Local Government and Housing Minister cum State Finance Minister II, Datuk Masidi Manjun, State Secretary Datuk Safr B. Untong, State Federal Secretary Dato’ Dr Zulkapli Mohamed, and Dr Rahimatsah Amat, CEO of Sabah Environmental Trust.

Meanwhile, Goh who is also President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) also called on all Malaysians to hoist the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah state flag during the period of the state-level National Day celebration, which starts from this month, until 16 September, where the Malaysia Day will be celebrated.

He also called on the people to fully support Hajiji’s call urging all quarters to set aside their differences, and to unite as one united force in fighting the pandemic, so that the country and the people could come out stronger after this..-pr/BNN
